Sociodrama involves recognising the various roles you play in situations with others and determining whether these are working for you.

Very often people cite “personality differences” when there are systemic issues shaping the encounter. Mapping those invisible elements can be helpful to widening perspective and gaining new insight.

Sociodrama also takes into consideration cultural connotations of a country or region with a recognition that those in Manchester may have a different perspective than those in Mumbai.

I use sociodrama to examine the root causes of problems and co-create strategies with clients to address and solve them.

In its simplest terms, action methods can be almost anything that gets people on their feet and connecting to each other. There are many dynamic exercises and games that can be considered Action Methods.

Why do action methods help people understand interpersonal dynamics better? Movement stimulates different parts of the brain and aids learning, not only in children and young people. (Would love some link to research here; can’t locate at the minute).

My holistic approach to business coaching and one-to-one coaching goes beyond stale skills training of the past.

The following points are the underpinning of my work:

CURIOSITY: Curiosity fuels our motivation to find solutions. When genuinely curious about a problem, we’re more likely to invest the time and effort needed to solve it. This drive can help us overcome obstacles and persist in the face of challenges.

CREATIVITY. Creativity helps problem solving by encouraging us to break out of old patterns and explore new possibilities. By thinking outside the box and challenging conventional wisdom, we identify fresh approaches to problems that may have seemed insurmountable before.

CANDOUR. The practice of speaking openly allows solutions to organically evolve. This helps us address problems more quickly and avoid misunderstandings. This level of honesty also fosters long-lasting trust among the givers and the receivers.

In Latin, “facilis” means “to render less difficult” or “to make easy.” How does facilitation make life easier in a workplace environment? By creating a safe environment for members to interact with one another, a greater understanding of dynamic occurs. This paves the way for better decision-making or planning. Facilitation starts with an agreement of the desired outcomes for the session. Consensus is not necessarily the aim, especially when groups are divided. Often the value is found in a space that is neutral enough to simply hear someone from the other side. I’ve facilitated many difficult group situations with topics such as sex work, immigration and asylum, the pay gap between men and women and even the best way forward for an emerging brass band.

Very often I meet people at choice points in their lives where they would like space, time and a critical friend with whom to consider the next best step.

Together, we focus on the present and the future, understanding patterns have been long established and shifting away from stale, unworking pathways takes time, effort and compassion.
